Why are you even writing this book?

As much as I truly love to tend to punctuation, grammar, and spelling mistakes, none of that matters if the purpose of the writing is unclear or unfocused.

Whether it's a nonfiction book or a book for your acquisitions funnel, know its purpose:

  • What are you offering?

  • Why are you writing it?

  • What do you want your readers to get out of reading it, or what do you want them to do having read it?

You will get much more out of honing in on that than spending time honing in on punctuation.

And when you've done that and you're ready to address the use—or misuse—of commas and semicolons, outsource that to someone who knows that inside and out.

That way, you can go back to your own higher purpose, to get things done, to inspire others with your words, to instigate positive change in the world.
