My book proposal is taking a long time to sell. Now what?

If you’re a nonfiction writer aiming for a traditional publisher, you may know that you’ve got to write that gnarly but necessary document of all, THE BOOK PROPOSAL, essentially the business plan for your book idea.

Say you’ve written it already. You’ve got your comp titles. Your author platform. Your plan to help market the book. You’ve queried agents, waited, and landed one. Yes!

The agent pitches a round of publishers. You wait. All no’s. Another round. More no’s.

Your patience thins. What gives?

The traditional publishing process takes time. But remember your vision and goals. Remember why you picked this path. Trust the process.

As an agent told a writer I worked with on both his ms and proposal, after getting a few rejections: You only need one yes!

That said, you can only control so much and leave it up to the universe to respond. That’s why having as nearly a pitch-perfect proposal as possible is crucial.

Check out some famous books that were rejected an insane number of times before getting a yes.

Meanwhile, if you’re struggling with the process, let’s chat to see how I can help.
